Lyft driver expense tracker

Lyft driver expense tracker for what the ride really paid

A free Lyft driver expense tracker: log miles, fuel, tolls, cleaning, phone and Lyft's platform fees, then see what an hour of driving actually leaves in your pocket.

Lyft's weekly summary shows what was paid out. It does not show fuel burned, wear on the car or the tax still owed on it. This does, on your own numbers.

Miles logged the way the IRS expects

Mileage is the biggest deduction most Lyft drivers have, and the easiest one to lose. A log kept as you drive is the one that survives a question later.

  • Trip log with date, purpose and odometer at the IRS standard rate
  • App-on miles kept separate from personal driving
  • Standard mileage compared against actual car costs
  • A clean mileage report to export at tax time

Fares in, Lyft's cut out

Your 1099-K can report gross passenger payments including fees you never received. Splitting them keeps income honest and the deduction complete.

  • Service fees and commissions separated from fares
  • Tips and bonuses tracked as their own income line
  • Airport, toll and booking charges recorded properly
  • 1099-K and 1099-NEC totals reconciled against your records

Tax held back while you drive

Nothing is withheld from a Lyft payout, so the reserve has to come off the top or it gets spent.

  • Self-employment plus federal and state estimate, updated live
  • A reserve set aside from every deposit automatically
  • Quarterly due dates with the amount to pay
  • Free calculators to sanity-check any figure

Common questions about Lyft driver expense tracking

What expenses can a Lyft driver deduct?
Either the IRS standard mileage rate or your actual vehicle costs, plus tolls and parking while working, the business share of your phone and data, car washes and cleaning, passenger supplies, mounts and chargers, and Lyft's own service fees.
Does Lyft take tax out of my pay?
No. Lyft treats you as an independent contractor, so nothing is withheld. You owe self-employment tax plus income tax and generally pay it quarterly.
How much should a Lyft driver set aside for taxes?
A common starting point is 25–30% of net profit after mileage and expenses, not of gross fares. Run the tax set-aside calculator on your own figures for a closer number.
Can I track Lyft and Uber in the same place?
Yes. Each platform stays a separate income source so you can see which pays better, while your miles and shared costs are pooled into one Schedule C.
Is the Lyft expense tracker free?
Yes — mileage, receipts and expense tracking are on the free forever tier, no card required.
